Recreation Acres
The City of King operates an active recreation park known as Recreation Acres. It is located at the intersection of West Dalton Road and White Road. Containing soccer fields, baseball fields, a concession stand, a dog park, a 9-hole disc golf course, and a walking/running track, Rec Acres is the premier spot for outdoor exercise in King.
Walking Track
The walking track around Rec Acres is six-tenths of a mile (0.6). If you take the sidewalk down to the soccer field, loop around, and walk back, that is an additional six-tenths (0.6). See image at bottom left for further explanation.
Everyone's Playground
In 2018, Recreation Acres acquired an exciting addition - Everyone's Playground. The nonprofit organization Make A Difference in King (MADIK) led the effort to raise funds for and construct a community-built all-inclusive playground. Featuring a wheelchair swing, sensory items, therapeutic swings, a wheelchair-usable merry-go-round, and much more, it is an addition that we are proud to present to the public.
Dog Park
Looking for a place to let your pup run?? The Rec Acres Dog Park features big separate lots for large and small dogs, water hydrants, and play equipment. Built in 2020, this has quickly become one of the park's most popular attractions! Open from sunrise to sunset.
Access from soccer complex - 136 Rec Acres Ln
Disc Golf
Rec Acres has expanded once again in 2022 with the brand new disc golf course! A 9-hole, wooded course, it is perfect for beginners and seasoned players alike. Beginning on the soccer complex side of the park (136 Rec Acres Ln), hole #1 is located between the dog park and the skate park. It loops through the woods to the walking trail, then back along the sewer line. Please be aware of walkers in the area and avoid throwing as they pass.
For those who don't own their own discs, the King Public Library has sets available to check out!
Facility Rentals
Rec Acres also has facilities for rent. These include a community building with a large hall, a small parlor, and a full kitchen, a large picnic shelter with two charcoal grills, and a smaller picnic shelter attached to Everyone's Playground. For more information see the Facility Rentals Information section or to make a reservation, please visit kingnc.recdesk.com.
Youth Leagues
Six lighted ball fields are host to local youth baseball, softball, and soccer leagues. While the city owns and operates these fields, the leagues are organized and run independently by dedicated community volunteers. More information about these leagues can be found on their websites:
