Facade Improvement Program

In 1998, the City of King city council approved a facade grant to promote facade improvements by business owners to the outside of buildings within the historical portion of downtown King.  The City of King is proud to promote its downtown appearance as well as its downtown businesses. Grant/Loans applications will be taken to the Community Appearance Commission (CAC) and voted on based upon the facade improvement guidelines.  The loan dollar amount will be determined based upon criteria outlined in the Facade Improvement Guidelines.    To apply for the grant, a business owner must follow the following guidelines:

 

1. Fill out the City of King's Facade Improvement Program Loan/Grant application.  This application must have a description of the improvements along with an estimated cost associated with the improvement. A rendering/ design or layout/plan must be submitted with the application for review.   Applications must be submitted and approved before any construction to the facade begins.  

2.Applications are to be submitted to the City of King Planning Department, located at 229 South Main Street in King.  Applications can be sent via email to gcalloway@ci.king.nc.us. In order to obtain more information about the Facade Improvement Program or questions about the application process, please call 336-983-8265.  

3.  Once application is received, the project will be reviewed by the City of King's Planning Department and City of King's Engineering Department.  

4.  After application is reviewed by the Planning and the Engineering Departments, the topic will be placed on the Community Appearance Commission (CAC) agenda at the next available date and time.  Project applicants are welcomed and encouraged to attend this meeting.  The Community Appearance Commission (CAC) will approve or deny the request.  The Community Appearance Commission (CAC)meets on the third Thursday of January, March, May, July, September and November.
