King Care-Calls
What is King Care-Calls?
The King Care-Calls Program consists of designated trained King Police Department Staff Members who make daily calls to needy residents, such as elderly citizens who live alone or disabled residents to check on their welfare and needs.
The Program is open to anyone 55 years of age or older or anyone with a physical disability residing in the King City limits.
The King Care-Calls Program provides a friendly and familiar voice to people who live alone and feel isolated from the community because of their homebound status. And it is free of charge.
The program operates Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A trained volunteer calls between these assure safety and provide a sense of caring. If there is not an answer, an emergency contact person is asked to verify the well-being of the individual. If unable, a police officer will be dispatched to the residence.
Who Benefits?
Everyone benefits from this program - from the volunteer to the senior who is contacted on a daily basis. Each call is an opportunity to confirm safety as well as impart care and concern. This service will provide a sense of security to the elderly population in the City of King to give them a sense of belonging and reassurance. It provides them the personal touch of a person - not a computer - calling to check on their well-being each day.
Family members who are not available due to work and other conflicts to ensure the well-being of their loved ones also benefit by having the assurance that a plan is in place for this purpose.
How does the Program work?
A volunteer with the King Police Department will call in the morning and speak with each customer. If there is no answer, they will call again later in the day. If there is still no answer, the volunteer will call a secondary contact listed on the application (family, friend, neighbor, or if needed, the local police department). The secondary contact will attempt to contact the customer and if the police are called, an officer will be dispatched to the residence to check on the customer.
